Thomas Wolsey, King Henry VIII’s right-hand man, first served strawberries & cream as a simple banquet dessert in 1509. It later became a dessert of choice when Wolsey hosted tennis matches at his palace. Eventually this tradition was passed down to Wimbledon. The Royal Box at Wimbledon has been used for the entertainment of friends and guests of Wimbledon since 1922. Guests are invited to the Clubhouse for lunch, tea and drinks at the end of the day.
